Right to refuse listing in directory

The Department of Eduction of Howard County periodically releases or discloses directory information about its students for public information purposes.

Directory information includes the student's name, address, telephone number, date and place of birth, major field of study, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, weight and height of members of athletic teams, dates of attendance, degrees and awards received and the most recent educational agency or institution attended by the student.

Parents and eligible students 18 years and older, have the right to refuse the release of any or all of these categories of information. They also have the right to refuse to permit the use of photographs that identify the individual student. Parents and eligible students have until Sept. 30 to inform the Howard County Department of Education if they do not wish to have directory information or personally identifiable photographs released.

Board of Education approves tuition rates

The following tuition rates for nonresident students have been approved by the Board of Education for the 1994-1995 school year:

Maryland resident is listed first followed by out-of-state resident tuition.

Elementary: $4,710, $6,310.

Secondary: $4710, $6,310

Kindergarten: $2,360, $3,155.

Parents of nonresident students are required to make application through the Pupil Services Department to enroll their children as tuition-paying students.

Nonresident students cannot be enrolled until authorization for their enrollment has been received.

Questions concerning billing and payment arrangements should be directed to the Business Office.

Copies of 1995 budget available for review

Copies of the fiscal year 1995 Operating Budget are available in the Public Information Office of the Department of Education, 10910 Route 108, Ellicott City.

College offers tuition payment plan

Howard Community College is offering a new tuition payment plan designed to alleviate the financial pressure of paying one lump sum.

Under the new plan, HCC students may pay their semester's tuition in five equal payments.

Initial installments will be due before the semester begins and final payment will be due after the start of the semester.
