Back To Nature

August 21, 1994|By Vida Roberts | Vida Roberts,Sun Fashion Editor

The last straw in fashion is the harvest of neutral and natura textures and fibers that seem to crop up everywhere in summer. They just seem to feel right. It's the time to pop on a straw hat, pack a basket with beach essentials and let the sun shine on.

Raffia and burlap, straw and canvas blend together in an unassuming way. And naturals sprout everywhere -- straw totes at the beach and at street-vendor carts, fun fedoras and shady sailor hats at the discount stores, and one-of-a-kind creations, such as the backpack shown, at chic boutiques.

Easy espadrilles with canvas tops and rough cord soles keep fashion firmly planted in the good earth. All in keeping with the ecological awareness that seems to flourish in the summer, when there is more leisure time to commune with nature.
