Truck drivers who haul GM vans stay on the job

August 18, 1994|By From Staff Reports

Truck drivers who haul the vans built at the General Motors Corp. assembly plant on Broening highway stayed on the job yesterday, as a union official reported some progress in labor talks between Leaseway Motor Car Inc. and the Teamsters representing the drivers.

John Clemens, president of Teamsters Local 557, said that the company and the union have reached agreements on wage and holiday concessions to be made by about 260 Leaseway workers, but that the two sides have not settled on the issue of how long a driver can be ordered out on the road by the company before returning home.

Mr. Clemens said the talks would continue today.
