Blaze damages McCahon company

The state fire marshal's office is investigating a two-alarm fire that caused $30,000 in damage early yesterday morning at the McCahon Body and Trailer Co. in Elkridge, Howard County fire and rescue officials said.

About 12:33 a.m. firefighters encountered heavy smoke while responding to the fire at the company in the 7100 block of Montevideo Road, said spokesman Lt. Michael Gearhart, of the county's Department of Fire and Rescue Services.

Once inside, firefighters found a large refrigerator truck on fire. The blaze was out by 1:58 a.m., Lieutenant Gearhart said.

The fire caused about $5,000 damage to the building's structure and $25,000 to the truck, which was owned by the L&M Produce Co. in Jessup. Firefighters from the Elkridge, Long Reach and Jessup stations responded.

* Ellicott City: 10200 block of Red Lion Tavern Court: Two window screens were cut from a home's windows Thursday or Friday, but police said there was no entry.

9000 block of Meadowvale Court: Someone broke a home's basement window Friday while residents were away on vacation. Police were unsure if anything had been taken.

10100 block of Green Clover Drive: A shotgun was stolen after someone broke glass in a rear door to enter the home Saturday, police said.

* Elkridge: 6600 block of Route 1: A stereo, watch and VCR were stolen Saturday after someone pried open a home's rear sliding glass door, police said.

6200 block of Route 1: Someone removed louvers from a bathroom window at the Terrace Motel Friday morning and stole a TV from a room, police said.
