Meet the candidates at Joppatowne park

Meet candidates who are running for county and state offices at a Candidates' Day from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. today at the pavilion at Mariner's Point Park on Kearney Drive in Joppatowne.

Barbecue, hot dogs and nachos will be for sale by the Joppatowne High School Athletic Booster Club.

The event is jointly sponsored by the Joppatowne Civic Association, Foster Branch Homeowners Association and Rumsey Island Residents Association. It will take place rain or shine.

Candidates for county executive, County Council president, -Z County Council, sheriff and the House of Delegates will attend.

Glendening committee plans Tuesday meeting

The Harford County Committee for Parris Glendening for Governor will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Call for directions.

New Democratic club to meet Wednesday

Talk with local Democratic candidates when the new East Harford County Democratic Club holds its first meeting at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Riverside Community Center in Belcamp.

The new Democratic club encompasses Aberdeen, Abingdon, Belcamp, Edgewood, Havre de Grace and Perryman.

Friends of Szczybor to hold picnic fund-raiser

The Friends of Ron Szczybor will sponsor an old-fashioned family picnic fund-raiser from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 21 at Bren-Mar Swim and Golf Club.

Mr. Szczybor is running for county executive.

Tickets, which include swimming, tennis, golf and food, are $25 per family in advance and $30 at the door. Information: 893-2200.

Amoss' committee plans corn roast, picnic

Citizens for William H. "Bill" Amoss will sponsor an old-fashioned corn roast and picnic on the Chesapeake Bay from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 21 at Perryville Community Park in Perryville.

Senator Amoss, a District 35 Democrat, is seeking re-election.

The event will include live music and a sing-along, clowns, face painting and games for children and contests for adults. An all-you-can-eat menu of barbecue, hot dogs, salads and desserts will be available.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $6 for children ages 7 to 12 and free for children under 7. Information: 879-7272 or 398-9158.

Craig candidacy opens campaign headquarters

Del. David R. Craig, a District 34 Republican and candidate for state Senate, has opened his campaign headquarters at 211 N. Washington St. in Havre de Grace.

The headquarters is open from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Yard signs, bumper stickers, buttons or brochures are available. Information: 273-6667.
