Freetown Village man arrested on drug charge

August 12, 1994

A county police officer arrested a Freetown Village man on drug charges Wednesday night after the man was stopped at New Freetown Road and Whitaker Road for speeding, officials said.

Corporal Michael Belcher was working a special enforcement detail in Freetown about 11:30 p.m. when he stopped a man for driving 35 mph in a 25 mph zone. The man was driving a 1986 Nissan pick-up truck that was not his, and had no identification but gave his name as Cedrick Blair, police said.

After further questioning, the officer learned the name was false and arrested the man. When Corporal Belcher searched him and the car, he found seven bags of suspected crack cocaine in the man's jacket pocket. He learned that the county sheriff's department had a warrant for the man in a nonsupport case, police said.

Ricky Lamont Mason, 23, of the 7800 block of Willing Court was charged with possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, traffic violations and making a false statement to police, officials said.

Mr. Mason was being held at the county detention center in lieu of $25,000 bond, police said.

Officers notified the owner of the truck that it had been towed. The owner told officers the man had borrowed the truck, police said.
