Red Sox update

Heading into last night, the Red Sox had dropped the first two of their three-game series with Minnesota. Tuesday, Boston rallied from a 3-1 deficit with single runs in the eighth and ninth innings to tie, but lost, 4-3, in 12 innings on a throwing error by former Oriole Todd Frohwirth. The Red Sox haven't won back-to-back games since July 28-29 and were a game behind Toronto for third place in the AL East going into last night but 1 1/2 games out of the cellar. The Orioles have won four of the six meetings with Boston, including a three-game sweep in mid-June at Fenway Park. The Orioles scorched Red Sox pitching for 23 runs on 39 hits, including a season-high 20 hits in a 10-7 win June 10. Mo Vaughn led Boston with 25 homers and 81 RBIs, but was second in the American League with 112 strikeouts.
