VFW members to attend convention in Las Vegas

Members from the Yingling-Ridgely Post and Ladies Auxiliary 7472 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Ellicott City will attend the 96th annual national convention in Las Vegas on Aug. 20 with the state VFW Cmdr. Dave Clark, state President Marie Bunting and the rest of the Maryland delegation.

The local post will display their colors during ceremonies. The national convention will be held in Baltimore in 1998.

* Ellicott City: First block of Rusty Rim Court: A 19-year-old man was wounded in the leg while playing with a bullet yesterday morning. Holding the bullet with a pair of pliers, the man hammered the bullet, which discharged and struck him in the left leg. He was driven by ambulance to Howard County General Hospital, where he was treated and released, emergency personnel said.

3100 block of Normandy Woods Drive: A cable box, a cassette disc player and a cordless phone were taken from a home Thursday. Police said the front door was pried open.

4600 block of Centennial Lane: A telephone, VCR and answering machine were taken from a residence on Sunday, police said. The house was entered through a kitchen door.
