August 06, 1994

FBI agents have arrested a suspect in the robbery Tuesday of a Provident Bank branch in the 7400 block of Ritchie Highway, county police said yesterday.

Neill Eric Smith, 41, of the 200 block of Oak Lane N.W. in Glen Burnie has been charged with armed robbery, police said.

Agents went to the man's house about 12:30 p.m. to question him, police said.

He consented to a search and the agents found money with red dye on it in a bedroom, police said.

Three of the bills matched the serial numbers on a list provided by the bank, police said.

The agents turned the suspect over to county police. He was taken to the Northern District and booked, police said.

He is accused of handing a note to a teller at the bank Tuesday morning that demanded money and said that he had a gun, police said.

A court commissioner ordered Mr. Smith held in lieu of $250,000 bail. District Judge Clayton Greene Jr. ordered the bail to remain the same at a hearing yesterday afternoon at the District Court in Annapolis.

Mr. Smith is being held at the Anne Arundel County Detention Center.
