Volkswalk this weekend on railroad trail

Everyone is welcome at the Chesapeake Bay Country Wanderers noncompetitive 10K Volkswalk this Saturday and Sunday along the WB&A Electric Railroad right of way at Bowie State University.

Participants can start anytime between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. and lTC finish by 5 p.m. The trail covers foot trails, abandoned railroad tracks, a wooded portion of the Patuxent River Park and Bowie State University.

North Arundel Hospital Odenton Medical Center, 1215 Annapolis Road in Odenton, is offering a free lecture on prevention of sports-related injuries at 7 p.m. on Aug. 11. The lecture will be held at the hospital's third-floor conference center. Reservations are required.

The O'Malley Senior Center, 1275 Odenton Road in Odenton, will offer a safe driving course from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. today. The course is sponsored by the American Association of Retired Persons and is designed to help seniors improve their driving skills.

Those who complete the course also might be able to reduce their insurance rates. A registration fee of $8 covers the text and materials. A check or money order made out to AARP must be submitted before the first session.

Class size is limited.

* From 10:15 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. on Aug. 9, Dr. Timothy Lynch will conduct free foot screenings by appointment. Activities at the center are available to area seniors age 55 and older.

Seven business organizations and the West Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce will hold a Batter Up Business Mixer at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 25, at Rip's Park Place. The mixer will then move next door to Prince George's County Stadium for the Reading Phillies vs. Bowie Baysox baseball game. The game starts at 7:05 p.m. Tickets for the entire evening are $15 for chamber members, $25 for nonmembers. Children under five get in free. The mixer will be held rain or shine.

To all 1984 Arundel Senior High School graduates! If you're up for a real exciting time with old friends and classmates, come to the 10-year reunion, 8 p.m. until 1 a.m., on Aug. 19, at the Annapolis Marriott Waterfront Hotel. A buffet will be served along with an open bar for beer and wine, cash bar for liquor. On Saturday, Aug. 20, the reunion will move to Quiet Waters Park for a picnic beginning at 2 p.m. and lasting until 6 p.m. Hotdogs, hamburgers, condiments, salads, beer and more will be provided. Children are welcome to attend the picnic.
