School board to review $4 million in renovations

The Anne Arundel County Board of Education is expected to review 17 contracts for about $4 million in renovations and maintenance of schools tomorrow at its monthly board meeting.

The renovation costs include a $182,593 contract to remove asbestos from Northeast and Southern high schools. The library at Marley Elementary School and offices at Tyler Heights Elementary School will be renovated for about $50,000.

Eleven schools, including High Point Elementary, Manor View Elementary, Shady Side Elementary and George Fox Middle, will receive portable classrooms. Folger McKinsey Elementary School will be getting a $21,300 computer lab.

Most of the work on the projects began in July and will be finished by the fall, according to Jack White, director of finance.

The board also will:

* Announce its 1994-1995 meeting schedule.

* Hear an update on construction at county schools.

* Discuss leasing surplus property in West County.

The meeting will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Administrative Building at 2644 Riva Road in Annapolis. The next board meeting is scheduled for Aug. 17 at 7:30 p.m.
