* Sykesville: Firefighters from the Sykesville station responded to an oil spill on Jeroby Road at 8:36 a.m. Friday. They were out for an hour and 45 minutes.

Engines from Sykesville, Winfield, Gamber and West Friendship of Howard County were dispatched to a building fire in the 7500 block of Main St., Sykesville, at 3:15 p.m. Friday. The first unit to arrive determined the smoke was coming from the ballast of a light fixture and canceled the other units. They were out for 20 minutes.
