There's nothing tastier on a summer afternoon than a hot ear of sweet corn drenched in golden butter.

Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., offers a chance to partake at the 24th annual Old-Fashioned Corn Roast at the Union Mills Homestead.

Tickets for adults cost $8.50, and buy a fried chicken platter and all the roasted ears you desire.

Children ages 6 to 12 can enjoy the same feast for $4. Younger children are invited to share with their parents.

Watermelon and ice cream will be for sale as an added treat.

Esther Shriver, executive director of the Union Mills Homestead Foundation, said the corn roast is a popular event at the Homestead, 3311 Littlestown Pike.

"We had over 1,500 people come out last year and we roasted 650 dozen ears of corn," Mrs. Shriver said. "This has always been a popular event. We have people come from all around and they come back each year."

Fifteen crafts people will be on the grounds selling handmade items, including wooden toys, Victorian ornaments, swags, wreaths and pillows. Information: 848-2288.

The price is $7 for adults, $3.50 for children and free for children under 6.
