Arizona Fall League -- Named Lamar Johnson of the Milwaukee Brewers manager, Gorman Heimueller of the Minnesota Twins pitching coach, Rod Allen of the Florida Marlins coach, Mark Rogow of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Bill Carpine of the San Francisco Giants trainers of the Chandler Diamondbacks.

Orioles -- Recalled P Armando Benitez from Double-A Bowie. Optioned P Mike Oquist to Triple-A Rochester.

Cincinnati Reds -- Placed OF Jerome Walton on the 15-day disabled list.

Florida Marlins -- Placed P Charlie Hough on the 15-day DL.

Pittsburgh Pirates -- Traded 1B/OF Brian Hunter to the Cincinnati Reds for a player to be named.

Texas Rangers -- Placed P Tim Leary on the 15-day DL. Recalled P Hector Fajardo from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

College

Big East Conference -- Named Tom Odjakjlan associate commissioner.

National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics -- Announced the resignation of Warner Alford, officer. Named Vince Dooley third vice president.

NCAA -- Placed the Idaho State University football program on one-year's probation. Reduced the program's scholarships by four to 59 for the 1995-1996 season and required that the school forfeit its two 1993 wins.

American International -- Named Leo Fanning, Brian Carroll and Tom Godek assistant football coaches and James Crawford and Bryant Garvin graduate assistant football coaches.

California State -- Agreed to pay $1.35 million plus $300,000 in attorney fees to settle a wrongful termination suit by former Fullerton volleyball coach Jim Huffman.

Drew -- Named Connee Zotos athletic director.

Florida -- Named Mike Shepherd men's assistant basketball coach.

Ohio State -- Suspended P Mike Malfatt indefinitely from the football team, pending the outcome of his shoplifting case.

Seton Hall -- Named Greg Herenda men's assistant basketball coach.

Tulane -- Named Chris Donielson men's golf coach.

Upsala -- Announced that it is dropping all intercollegiate sports.

Wake Forest -- Named Ed Ellis strength coach.

William Smith -- Named Glenn Begly interim athletic director.

Football

NFL -- Announced that Amsterdam, Barcelona, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Munich and Scotland will make up the World League of American Football for the season starting in April 1995.

Detroit Lions -- Waived OL Jason Jones.

Green Bay Packers -- Released S Mike Prior and then re-signed him.

Miami Dolphins -- Waived LB Melvin Spralding.

New York Jets -- Signed DB Gary Beckford. Waived RB Robert Trice.

New Orleans Saints -- Withdrew contract offer to LB Rickey Jackson.

San Francisco 49ers -- Signed PK Doug Brien to a two-yeacontract.

Washington Redskins -- Signed CB Richard Fain.

CFL -- Named Calgary QB Doug Flutie Offensive Player of thWeek.

Toronto Argonauts (CFL) -- Acquired LB Joe Sardo from thOttawa Rough Riders in exchange for their 1995 fourth-round draft pick.

Hockey

Philadelphia Flyers -- Signed C/LW Shjon Podein.

Tampa Bay Lightning -- Signed D/F Rudy Poeschek and head scout Don Murdoch to multi-year contracts.
