Vandal drives bulldozer off bridge at work site

July 28, 1994

Someone drove a $150,000 bulldozer off a bridge at the construction site of the extension of Route 100 near Dorsey Road and O Connor Drive sometime over the weekend, county police said yesterday.

The bulldozer fell some 30 to 40 feet into woods and may have been destroyed, police said.

Louis Hutcherson, 54, the owner of Williams Construction Co. in the 8600 block of Pulaski Highway in Baltimore, told police that his employees left the bulldozer parked on the bridge when they left work at 2 p.m. Saturday.

When they returned at noon Sunday, they found it in the woods, police said.

Officers investigating the case said that the culprit apparently had a key to start the bulldozer.

The make of the bulldozer was a Cat, Mr. Hutcherson told police.

Mr. Hutcherson said the keys to all Cat bulldozers are interchangeable.

Mr. Hutcherson did not report the incident to police until Monday morning, after he had visited the site to inspect the bulldozer and assess the damage, according to police.
