Two men found dead in a Northeast Baltimore apartment Tuesday afternoon were suffocated, city police said yesterday.

But investigators released few other details of the double homicide in the 4300 block of Forestview Ave., as detectives continued to probe those slayings and the shooting deaths of three other people on Tuesday.

The men found on the third floor apartment on Forestview Avenue were identified yesterday as Leaf Hansen, 23, and his roommate, Timothy Tyson, 22.

Officer Sabrina Tapp-Harper, a police spokeswoman, said the cause of death was asphyxiation.

Also yesterday, police identified the two men shot to death Tuesday afternoon on a playground at East Preston Street and North Patterson Park Avenue, next to Collington Square Elementary School.

Officer Tapp-Harper said Rodney Bernard Stallworth, 31, of the 4000 block of Shannon Drive, was pronounced dead on arrival at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Pronounced dead on the scene was Murriel Edward Chew, 25, of the 4100 block of Ardley Ave. The men were shot while standing near a playground swing set about 3:30 p.m. Police said yesterday they do not know what led up to the shooting, in which an unidentified teen-ager playing basketball was grazed by a stray bullet.

Also, police said they arrested a suspect yesterday in the fatal shooting early Tuesday of Kenneth Metcalf, 16, of the 2100 block of Eagle St. Police said he was shot by a stray bullet as he sat in a lawn chair in the 2200 block of Wilkens Ave., a block from his home.

Darrill Lynn McGregor, 19, of the 500 block of Brunswick St., was charged with first-degree murder and a handgun violation.
