Auto racing

International Automobile Federation -- Suspended Michael Schumacher from the next two Grand Prix races and took away six points from his standings, for rules violations during a race in Silverstone, England. Suspended the license of Pierre Aumonier, director of the British Grand Prix, for one year for various infractions.

Baseball

Boston Red Sox -- Placed OF Andre Dawson on the 15-day DL. Purchased the contract of C Eric Wedge from Triple-A Pawtucket. Optioned OF Andy Tomberlin to Pawtucket.

Chicago Cubs -- Activated P Anthony Young from the DL. Placed P Steve Trachsel on the 15-day DL, retroactive to July 20.

Colorado Rockies -- Activated C Joe Girardi from the 15-day DL. Optioned C Jayhawk Owens to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Detroit Tigers -- Placed P Mike Henneman on the 15-day DL, retroactive to July 19. Recalled Sean Bergman from Triple-A Toledo.

San Francisco Giants -- Activated OF Mark Carreon from the DL. Optioned OF Rikkert Faneyte to Triple-A Phoenix.

Seattle Mariners -- Recalled IF Rich Amaral from Triple-A Calgary. Optioned P George Glinatsis to Double-A Jacksonville.

Basketball

Phoenix Suns -- Re-signed F A. C. Green to a five-year contract. Signed G Wesley Person to a four-year contract.

College

Missouri Valley Conference -- Extended the contract of Doug Elgin, commissioner, for three years.

Trans America Athletic Conference -- Announced its men's basketball officiating program will be affiliated with the Southeastern Conference, effective for the 1994-95 season.

George Washington -- Named Jack Kvancz athletic director.

Football

NFL -- Rejected the contract that LB Trev Alberts signed with the Indianapolis Colts. Upheld the $30,000 fine imposed last year on Chuck Cecil of the Arizona Cardinals.

Dallas Cowboys -- Announced the retirement of TE Alfredo Roberts.

Detroit Lions -- Re-signed TE Rodney Holman.

Green Bay Packers -- Placed TE Charlie Dean and LB LeRoy Smith on the injured list.

Indianapolis Colts -- Waived TE Charles Arbuckle, OT Cecil Gray, DE Robert Brown and LB Alex Gordon.

Kansas City Chiefs -- Signed TE Franklin Thomas. Released LB Jerry Freese.

Minnesota Vikings -- Released C Adam Schreiber. Signed C Frank Cornish.

San Francisco 49ers -- Waived WR Brian Treggs. Re-signed DE Karl Wilson.

Sacramento Gold Miners (CFL) -- Signed WR Tony Hargain.

Hockey

Buffalo Sabres -- Acquired D Doug Houda from the Los Angeles Kings for D Sean O'Donnell.

Dallas Stars -- Signed D Grant Ledyard to a two-year contract.
