POLICE

* Sykesville: A resident of the 5900 block of Snowden Run Road told state police someone stole his 1988 Chevrolet Sportside truck from the 6400 block of Ridge Road Thursday. The vehicle was valued at $8,000.

A resident of North Springlake Way told state police someone stole 55 compact disks from his home between July 17 and 22. The loss is estimated at $875.

* Eldersburg: An official of the C&L Cycle Shop, in the 1500 block of Liberty Road, told state police someone broke into the shop Thursday and stole two dirt bikes. The cycles were valued at $5,049.

FIRE

* Sykesville: Firefighters from the Sykesville station investigated a report of smoke in the area of Brangles Road at 11:45 a.m. Saturday. They were out for 15 minutes.

Sykesville volunteers assisted Howard County when a fire alarm sounded in a building in the 7500 block of Main St., Ellicott City, at 9:49 p.m. Friday. They were out for 20 minutes.

Sykesville engines responded to a brush fire at Route 32 and Cooper Drive at 5:09 p.m. Friday. They were out for 40 minutes.

* Gamber: Firefighters from the Gamber station responded to a brush fire in the 2300 block of Kays Mill Road at 6:44 p.m. Friday. They were out for 17 minutes.
