Police investigate 4 armed robberies

Howard County police are investigating four armed robberies in Laurel and Columbia since Friday, including one in a home and two in apartment complex parking lots.

Police said the most recent incident occurred at 12:55 a.m. yesterday, when two armed men burst into a home in the 5200 block of Rivendell Lane in Columbia after a resident answered a knock on the door.

Two men armed with handguns robbed Paul Wilmot, Brandon Smith and Melissa Levine, all 21, of an undisclosed amount of cash, then fled, police said.

One robber was described as a black male 20 years old, 6 feet tall and 150 pounds. He was wearing a black hooded pullover shirt and black jeans.

The second robber was described as a black male, 20 years old, 5 feet 6 inches tall and 140 pounds, with a thin mustache. He was wearing a dark green hooded sweat shirt and black jeans.

Sunday, Steven Moore, 30, was robbed after he withdrew money from a Maryland National Bank automated teller machine at 9:30 p.m. in the 9800 block of Brewers Court in Laurel, police said.

The robber was described as a black male, 25 years old and 150 pounds. He was wearing green and white shorts, a shirt and had a nylon stocking over his face.

Saturday, a Virginia woman was robbed of her purse in the parking lot of Whiskey Bottom Apartments in Laurel by an armed man, police said.

Dorothy Kim, 34, of Annandale, Va., reported that the robber approached her while she sat in her car in in the 9200 block of Livery Lane at 2:20 a.m. The robber demanded money, fired one shot into the ground from his handgun, reached into the woman's car and took her purse. He then fled to another vehicle and drove away. The victim was not injured, police said.

Police described the robber as a black male, dark-skinned and unshaven. He was wearing a knit cap.

Friday, a resident of Island Club Apartments in East Columbia and her friend were robbed of an undisclosed sum of money by an armed man in the parking lot, police said.

Police said the robber demanded money from Carrie Everly, 36, and Arquimedes McDonald, 32, of Ransom, W.Va., as they walked from their parked car in the 5300 block of Columbia Road. The robber ran to a car that was driven by another man. No one was injured, police said.

Police described the robber as a black male in his early 20s, 6 feet 1 inch tall and 190 pounds. He had short hair and was wearing a purple T-shirt, blue pants and dark tennis shoes. The car was described as a late-model, tan, two-door car with Maryland tags.
