* A 2,100-acre tract of land, a mile southwest of Linthicum Heights in Anne Arundel County, is favored as the site for a new municipal airport, Robert O. Bonnell, chairman of the Baltimore Aviation Commission, announced today. -- The Sun, Aug. 5, 1944.

* Capt. Karl J. Christoph of Annapolis was awarded the Navy Cross today by Vice Adm. Thomas Kincaid for gallantry in action against the enemy in the Southwest Pacific. -- The Sun, Aug. 8, 1944.

* Jean Beverly, 18, of Fort Meade won the bathing beauty contest at Fort Meade after three ballots and extra judges had been selected from the audience of 4,000. -- The Sun, Aug. 16, 1944.

* Some 17 cases of polio but no deaths have been reported in Anne Arundel County. -- The Sun, Aug. 24, 1944.
