County commissioners vote to purchase land

Carroll County commissioners voted yesterday to buy two parcels of land -- one for the airport expansion and the other for a road improvement project.

They voted to buy 6.1 acres and a 4.3-acre easement on Indian Valley Trail from James T. Wolfe for $42,550.

The land is needed to accommodate the new runway at the Carroll County Regional Airport.

They also voted to buy 1/10 of an acre at Route 27 and Hahn Road in Westminster from Hot Air Limited Partnership for $7,250.

Ambulance damaged, three hurt in crash

An ambulance from the Sykesville Freedom Volunteer Fire Company received minor damage in a rear-end collision Wednesday on Liberty Road.

The older of the department's two medical units will remain out of service while undergoing minor repairs, which include replacing its rear bumper, fire officials said.

Earlier this year, Sykesville took delivery of a new ambulance.

"Occasionally, we operate with only one unit," said Lt. Bruce Fleming of the company, which has its station on Route 32.

Three emergency crew members were also injured in the accident, which occurred near the Baltimore County line.

They were treated and released from Northwest Hospital Center, where they had just dropped off a patient.

Lieutenant Fleming said none of the injuries was serious.

Police are investigating the accident.
