Westminster senior wins scholarship

Sarah Dyky, a Westminster High School senior, has been selected as one of nine Maryland students to win a $2,500 Discover Card Tribute Award Scholarship.

The scholarships are awarded in cooperation with the American Association of School Administrators to outstanding juniors and seniors.

Ms. Dyky is active in 4-H and has won grand champion prizes. She is homeroom representative for her class and captain of the flag unit and volunteers in the community.

FIRE

* Westminster: Engines from Westminster and Reese answered a fire alarm on Washington Road at 5:14 p.m. Sunday. They were out for 20 minutes.

Equipment from Westminster was called out for flooding on East Green Street at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. It was out of service for 36 minutes.

Units from Westminster and Reese answered an alarm on Washington Road at 2:40 p.m. Sunday. They were out for 23 minutes.

Engines from Westminster, Pleasant Valley and Reese were dispatched to a fire alarm on Court Place at 3:06 p.m. Sunday. They were out 38 minutes.

Equipment from the Reese station responded to an auto fire on East Green Street at 3:07 p.m. Sunday. It was out almost two hours.

Units from Westminster were called out to a trash fire on Fairway Drive at 6:50 p.m. Friday. They were out for 52 minutes.
