July 12, 1994

County police arrested a Laurel man and charged him with assault with intent to murder and battery after they were called to quell a domestic dispute early Sunday. Robert John Hall, 31, of the first block of Welchs Court was taken into custody about 5:30 a.m. after a 2 1/2 -hour search of the woods near his home, said Officer Randy Bell, county police spokesman.

Officer Bell said Mr. Hall and Linda Crowel, 33, of the same address on Welchs Court, had been fighting earlier in the evening. Mr. Hall is accused of putting the barrel of a shotgun in Ms. Crowel's mouth and threatening to kill her before he fled. He was being held yesterday at the county Detention Center on $350,000 bond.

Man asks for change, then robs gas station

A gunman robbed a Mobil gas station in the 1400 block of Annapolis Road Sunday night of an undisclosed amount of money, county police said yesterday.

The man came into the station shortly after 8:30 p.m. and asked the clerk for change, police said. When the clerk turned around, the man stuck a black, semiautomatic handgun in his face and ordered him to sit on the floor, police said.

The robber then went around the counter and emptied the cash register. As he left, the man struck the clerk in the head with the gun. The clerk received a small cut from the blow but did not require hospital treatment, police said.

The robber fled in a faded green 1968 to 1970 Pontiac, possibly a LeMans model, police said.
