American League -- Announced Seattle Mariners OF Eric Anthony has withdrawn his appeal of a four-game suspension.

National League -- Suspended San Francisco coach Bob Brenly for 14 games and Montreal P Mel Rojas for four games for their parts in a bench-clearing incident during the July 2 Giants-Expos game. Suspended St. Louis 2B Geronimo Pena for five games, effective July 14, for charging the mound in the June 30 game against Colorado. Fined Brenly, Rojas and Pena undisclosed amounts. Reduced the four-game suspension of St. Louis OF Bernard Gilkey to two games.

Colorado Rockies -- Optioned P Bruce Walton to Triple-A Colorado. Recalled OF Trent Hubbard from Colorado Springs.

Milwaukee Brewers -- Placed C B. J. Surhoff on the 15-day DL. Called up C Mike Matheny from Triple-A New Orleans. Optioned OF Troy O'Leary to New Orleans. Purchased the contract of C Rick Wrona from New Orleans. Transferred P Jeff Bronkey from the 15- to the 60-day DL.

Minnesota Twins -- Placed DH Dave Winfield and P Pat Mahomes on the 15-day DL, Mahomes retroactive to July 6. Activated SS Pat Meares from the 15-day DL. Recalled OF Rich Becker from Triple-A Salt Lake City.

New York Yankees -- Activated 2B Pat Kelly from the 15-day DL. Placed IF Kevin Elster on the 15-day DL.

Seattle Mariners -- Recalled SS Alex Rodriguez from Double-A Jacksonville. Optioned IF Rich Amaral to Triple-A Calgary.

College

Big East Conference -- Named Donna DeMarco assistant commissioner for championships; Teresa Rienza director of special projects for basketball and football championships; Susan Shevlin assistant commissioner for finances, and Maura Legare director of championship services.

Coastal Carolina -- Named Michael Hopkins men's basketball coach and Brian Garmouth and Tracy Garrick assistant men's basketball coaches.

Dartmouth -- Promoted special assistant to the athletic director Bob Ceplikas to deputy director of athletics.

Johns Hopkins -- Announced the resignation of Bob Scott, director of athletics, after 1995 season.

Livingston -- Announced the resignation of Mark Hogan, baseballcoach, so he can take the same position at Southeast Missouri State.

Saginaw Valley State -- Named David Wiemers defensive coordinator.

St. Joseph's -- Named Al Laveson women's tennis coach.

Westfield State -- Announced the resignation of Tim Buchanan, men's soccer coach.

Arizona Cardinals -- Waived DL Keith Rucker.

Buffalo Bills -- Signed OL Tom Dohring and NT Leonard Larramore.

Chicago Bears -- Announced the retirement of RB Neal Anderson.

Cincinnati Bengals -- Signed DE Kanavis McGhee.

Green Bay Packers -- Signed WR Terry Mickens.

Houston Oilers -- Agreed to terms with LB Brett Faryniarz.

New Orleans Saints -- Terminated the contract of FB Brad Muster.

Seattle Seahawks -- Agreed to terms on one-year contracts with CB Le-Lo Lang and TE Clarence Williams. Announced they will not offer a contract to DL Jeff Bryant.

Hockey

Buffalo Sabres -- Signed RW Kevin McClelland, D Todd Copeland and C Paul Rushforth.

Chicago Blackhawks -- Signed C Mike Pomichter, LW Matthew Oates and LW Brent Grieve.

Florida Panthers -- Re-signed C Jesse Belanger to a multi-year contract.

U.S. Olympic Committee -- Named Ralph Raymond coach of the 1996 U.S. women's fast-pitch softball team.
