Orioles -- Assigned P Garrett Stephenson to Double-A Bowie.

Boston Red Sox -- Claimed P Greg Brummett off waivers from the Minnesota Twins and optioned him to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Chicago White Sox -- Activated IF Craig Grebeck from the 15-day disabled list; placed IF Joey Cora on the 15-day DL. Moved OF Joe Hall from the 15-day DL to the 60-day emergency DL.

Cleveland Indians -- Recalled P Albie Lopez from Triple-A Charlotte. Optioned P Chad Ogea to Charlotte.

Florida Marlins -- C Ron Tingley refused re-assignment to Triple-A Edmonton and is now a free agent.

Houston Astros -- Activated P Pete Harnisch from the 15-day DL. Optioned P Ross Powell to Triple-A Tucson.

Kansas City Royals -- Signed P Matt Smith.

Minnesota Twins -- Sent IF David McCarty to Triple-A Salt Lake City. Recalled P Eddie Guardado from Salt Lake City.

Pittsburgh Pirates -- Placed P Alejandro Pena on waivers. Purchased the contract of P Mike Dyer from Triple-A Buffalo.

St. Louis Cardinals -- Placed P John Habyan on the 15-day DL. Recalled P Frank Cimorelli from Triple-A Louisville.

Seattle Mariners -- Claimed P Bob Wells off waivers from Philadelphia and optioned him to Triple-A Calgary. Signed P Trey Moore.

Texas Rangers -- Optioned OF David Hulse to Triple-A Oklahoma City.


Dallas Mavericks -- Exercised the option year on the contract of F Popeye Jones. Announced they will not tender a qualifying offer to F Randy White and will not exercise the option year on the contract of G Tim Legler, making both players unrestricted free agents.

Indiana Pacers -- Traded F Malik Sealy and G Pooh Richardson and the rights to F Eric Piatkowski to the Los Angeles Clippers for G Mark Jackson and the rights to G Greg Minor.

New Jersey Nets -- Signed F Sean Higgins.


Villanova -- Named John Marshall men's and women's track and field and cross country coach.


Philadelphia Eagles -- Signed S Greg Jackson.

Pittsburgh Steelers -- Agreed to terms with TE Jonathan Hayes.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- Waived LB Broderick Thomas.


St. Louis Blues -- Signed G Jon Casey

U.S. Figure Skating Association -- Announced Tonya Harding will be removed as 1994 U.S. Ladies' Champion and will be banned from membership in the USFSA for life for violating the code of ethics.
