Man pleads guilty to cocaine charge

June 30, 1994

A 21-year-old Westminster man pleaded guilty yesterday to a charge that he distributed cocaine in December.

Calvin L. "Peanut" Warfield, a former Westminster High School basketball star, entered the plea as part of an agreement with prosecutors, Assistant State's Attorney Barton F. Walker III said in Carroll County Circuit Court yesterday.

In exchange for the plea, the state agreed to drop several other drug charges against Warfield.

Mr. Walker asked Judge Francis M. Arnold for a five-year sentence for Warfield, with three years suspended.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Sept. 19.

Warfield remains in custody at the Carroll County Detention Center.

On the night of Dec. 17, he used borrowed money to buy a friend $20 worth of crack cocaine near the corner of South Court and East George streets, according to court documents.
