Va. man killed, 2 others hurt as pickup flips

June 30, 1994

A Virginia man was killed and two others, part of a group of friends traveling to Ocean City, were seriously injured yesterday when they were thrown from the bed of a pickup truck that overturned near Annapolis.

Daniel J. Quigley, 27, of Hartwood, Va., died at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he had been taken after the accident.

Daniel L. Zenker, 19, of Springfield, Va., was in stable condition yesterday at the trauma center. Whitby C. Joyner, 22, of Durham, N.C., was taken to the Prince George's Hospital Center, where he was listed in fair condition.

The men were in the bed of a Mazda pickup driven by Christine Myskowski of Woodbridge, Va. The truck was traveling east on U.S. 50 when the left rear tire blew out at Route 665 about 5:15 a.m.

Ms. Myskowski was briefly trapped in the truck. She and the front-seat passenger, Alisha G. Stripling, of Chantilly, Va., were taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center and treated for minor injuries.

State police said Ms. Myskowski could be cited for carrying passengers in the truck bed, which violates county law but not state law.
