Lammirato, Planisek featured at Irazu

June 29, 1994

Canadian sculptor Joseph Lammirato and Maryland artist Mark Planisek will be featured from July 8 through Aug. 20 at the new Columbia art gallery Irazu at 9143-G Red Branch Road.

The exhibit, "49th Parallel: Where Canada and U.S.A. Meet," features photo collages and wood sculptures that display the consistencies of color, geometrics and humor of these two diverse mediums.

The Lammirato and Planisek traveling exhibition came together two years ago in the SoHo district in New York City.

Mr. Lammirato, a sculptor from Toronto, creates humorous wood sculptures of larger-than-life-size inhabitants from a lost civilization.

Mr. Planisek, a photo collage artist from Takoma Park, creates colorful photo collages taken from everyday life, including magazines, newspapers and photos of friends.
