Pipe bomb believed to have caused mailbox explosion

Police believe a pipe bomb caused the destruction of a U.S. Postal Service mailbox in Odenton on Saturday.

The explosion occurred at 12:32 a.m. at Chapel Gate Drive and Waugh Chapel Road.

No one was injured by the blast.

The county fire marshal's office is investigating the incident.

* Hanover: Dwayne Lamont Simms, 30, of Race Road, was arrested Saturday by Anne Arundel County deputy sheriffs on charges that he failed to appear in court and violated his probation on a charge of possession of a controlled dangerous substance.
