Lions Club installs '94-'95 officers

The Hampstead Lions Club recently installed new officers for 1994-1995 at Piney Branch Golf Club.

Larry Whitney was named president; Kenneth Kemp, first vice president; Richard Murray, second vice president; Aaron Macknew, third vice president; Vernon Tracey, secretary; and W. Michael Rhoten, treasurer.

In the past year, the club has donated more than $3,000 to vision research and sight projects, including eye exams for the needy in Hampstead, and has sponsored more than 750 boys and girls in Little League programs. Other projects include a $500 donation to North East Social Action Program and an aluminum can recycling project that raised money for Hampstead Community Park.

Lion of the Year awards were presented to Charles Deigert and Mr.Murray. Life memberships were awarded to Mr. Rhoten and Mr. Murray. Joseph Bach won the Melvin Jones Fellow Award, the highest honor the Lions International bestows on a club member for community service.


Manchester: City firefighters responded Thursday at 7:21 p.m. to a report of a gas grill leaking in the 3400 block of Augusta Road. Units were out for 30 minutes.
