Linthicum Park concert series to start July 3

The Woman's Club of Linthicum Heights is about to begin another season of its popular "Concerts in the Park" series.

The six concerts take place in Linthicum Park on Benton Avenue on Sundays at 6 p.m. Mark these dates on your calendar:

* July 3, Mary Ann Price, Texas swing and jazz;

* July 17, Grey, Green & Travers Trio, blue grass and favorites;

* July 24, Gino's Great Jazz Ensemble, big band;

* July 31, Beauty Shop Quartet, barbershop harmony;

* Aug. 7, Naval Academy Band;

* Aug. 14, Crabtowne Big Band.

Bring lawn chairs and blankets, pack a picnic supper, and enjoy the music with your friends and neighbors. In the event of rain, concerts are canceled.

The support of the Crestwood Improvement Association, Cultural Arts Foundation of Anne Arundel County, Linthicum Lions Club, Linthicum-Shipley Improvement Association and the Performing Arts Association of Linthicum is greatly appreciated.

The concerts are arranged and refreshments provided for the artists by the Music Committee of the Woman's Club. Jo Barker is chairwoman and Dolores Schuman, co-chairwoman.

The North Linthicum Recreation Club is presenting an exciting evening of fun for children and teens from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. June 29. And, the festivities are open to the public. Admission is $2 for members and $3.50 for nonmembers.

Children ages 3 to 10 are welcome to try their hand at a "Beat the Pinata" party. Games, prizes, refreshments and a pinata full of candy and toys will be part of the fun.

"Casino Night at the Pool" is presented for ages 11 to 17. There will be refreshments and games played for prizes.

The club has activities scheduled all year.

The Olympic-size pool and toddler pool are open between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Adult, teen and pre-teen pool activities are planned for the summer. Club members can rent the pool for very reasonable rates.

The club is on Governors Gate Lane in North Linthicum. The $300 yearly membership covers the period of May 1 to April 30.

Close Knit Group will continue to meet at the Linthicum branch library for the summer months, but will not have planned programs.

The next meeting will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. tomorrow. After the business meeting, members will spend time working on their individual projects and afghans for the homeless. Questions and help with knitting problems will be answered.

There will be a vacation Bible school at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., July 11 to 15, for a cost of $3 per child. The church is off West Maple Road between Camp Meade and Hammonds Ferry roads.

Preschoolers and children entering grades one to six in the fall are invited to participate in a summer reading program at the Linthicum branch library. Nine fun-filled weeks of great books, activities, special events and prizes are planned.

Register anytime from today through Aug. 20 for the free program. Depending on the number of books read, youngsters will earn coupons for Little Caesars, 7-11 Slurpees, Friendly's, Wendy's and McDonalds.

To be eligible for a prize drawing to win tickets to Busch Gardens, the B & O Railroad Museum or the Babe Ruth Museum, participants should fill out a registration form and drop in the registration box.
