Yankees update

They have been alone in first place since May 9 and are in danger of falling into a first-place tie with the Orioles if they lose tonight. . . . Scott Kamieniecki gave the Yankees' bullpen a much-needed rest yesterday, pitching a complete game, but the Yankees lost for the third time in their four-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays, 3-1, at SkyDome. . . . The Yankees have lost their last four series. . . . Wade Boggs has hit all of his eight home runs since May 15. He hit only two last season and hit more than eight in a season just once, when he hit 24 for Boston in 1987. . . . Xavier Hernandez has faltered as the closer. Bob Wickman (2-1, 2.31, three saves) has been used some in that role lately and has been the Yankees' most effective late-inning reliever.
