Police arrest 2 in holdup of a pizza deliveryman

County police have arrested two people -- a 20-year-old

Annapolis man and a 15-year-old Annapolis youth -- in connection with the robbery of a Domino's Pizza deliveryman Friday night, officials said.

Diriki Akida Thurman, 20, of the 2000 block of Ashley Drive was arrested Saturday in the 200 block of Hilltop Lane and charged with robbery with a deadly weapon, use of a handgun in the commission of a felony and conspiracy to commit robbery with deadly weapon, police said. The 15-year-old was arrested Sunday and charged as a juvenile in the incident, police said.

The deliveryman, Barry Melvin Dey, 30, was robbed of an undisclosed amount of money and a pizza as he walked back to his car about 9 p.m. He had tried to deliver the pizza to a house in the 2000 block of Ashley Drive but got no answer at the door, police said.

Two males stopped him before he got to his car. One had a black pellet pistol that resembled a 9mm or a .45-caliber handgun, police said. Mr. Dey was not injured in the incident, police said.

Man is arrested in break-in, rape try

County police arrested a 34-year-old Edgewater man Saturday morning after a woman said that an intruder broke into her house in the 4000 block of Muddy Creek Road and attempted to rape her, officials said.

Gregory Wendell Sharps of the 4100 block of Muddy Creek Road was charged with assault with intent to rape and breaking and entering in the 2 a.m. incident, police said. The 55-year-old woman was not harmed.

The woman told police she was awakened by the sound of a window smashing in her front guest room. She got out of bed and yelled 'What's going on?' when she was met by a man who had come in through the broken window, police said. The man attacked her and tried to rape her, the woman told police.

The victim fought the suspect off, police said. But her attacker pulled out a "knife-like" object and demanded money from her, police said. She gave him a large sum of money from her purse, police said. The man then demanded her house keys, which she refused to hand over, police said.

The suspect then ordered the woman to open the front door ther house and fled after she did so, police said.

The woman told police she knew the suspect and directed theto an address in the 4100 block of Muddy Creek Road, police said.

* Annapolis: A 17-year-old Severna Park youth was robbed of about $120 late Saturday. He was accosted on Newman Street about 11:30 p.m. by two men, who shoved what he thought was a handgun to his chest. They fled toward Eastport Bridge.

* Annapolis: The Rev. Henry Hammer, 80, of the 100 block of Hilltop Lane was robbed about 10 p.m. Wednesday by two men who forced their way into his home and stole $61.
