Knets Tennis Classic is June 18-26

Howard Community College's 11th annual Knets Tennis Classic will be played June 18-26 at Wilde Lake, Owen Brown and HCC tennis courts. The finals will be June 25-26 at the HCC campus.

Registration deadline is Friday. Proceeds will provide scholarships and instructional support for HCC students.

The tournament will include singles and doubles matches in men's, women's and doubles matches. An awards ceremony will be held after the finals June 26 in the HCC cafeteria.

Players may pick up applications in the HCC Student Activities Office and the Physical Education Center, and at the Owen Brown and Wilde Lake tennis clubs in Columbia.

The fee is $18 per event. Information: 992-4896.


* Hickory Ridge: 5900 block of Watch Chain Way: Holes were found cut in a bedroom window screen and an adjacent window Thursday, but there was no entry, police said.

6100 block of Cedar Wood Drive: A 10-inch mini-cycle was taken from a home Thursday after someone entered through an unlocked sliding glass door, police said.

6400 block of Freetown Road: A cash register was stolen after someone broke through a front glass door at Rave Reviews early Friday morning. Police said the alarm was not activated.
