VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

June 05, 1994|By Kevin Harrison

About the volunteer: Mrs. Stansbury is president of the Auxiliary at the Arundel Medical Center, an organization she has been a member of over four years. She also volunteers at the Annapolis Area Christian school, where her grandson is a student.

A retired mental health therapist from the Baltimore City Health Department, Mrs. Stansbury says she and her husband have been living in the area long enough "to be called Annapolitans."

She and her husband, William Stansbury, enjoy golfing and spending time with their 13-year-old grandson.

Volunteer's comments: "Volunteering is rewarding in ways you cannot express in words. I recommend it to anyone, it's a way to keep productive.

"I'm just delighted to be doing this. It's a great rewarding feeling.

"I feel that I'm able to reach out to the community because we're providing services for the hospital and the hospital is the community. You're reaching out to everyone.

"One of things I'm focusing on right now is the opening of the Rebecca M. Clatanoff Women's Pavilion in May of next year."

Mrs. Stansbury says one of her favorite Bible passages from Proverbs guides her life. "In all that you do acknowledge Him and He will direct your path."

"Spiritually the Lord has been good to me and I ask him to direct my path every day."

About the organization: The Auxiliary, which has a membership of more than 900, is celebrating 50 years of service to the hospital.

Members work at the reception and discharge desks, help with patient transportation, and handle telephone and television service to patients. The Auxiliary sponsors fund-raisers, such as the annual Pink Lady Ball, runs the hospital's gift shop and a snack bar, and manages a consignment shop.

For more information on the volunteer opportunities offered by the Auxiliary, contact 267-1249, Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
