Auto racing NASCAR -- Fined Doug Heveron, Busch Series Grand National Division driver, $1,000 and placed him on a three-race probation for standing on the track and throwing his helmet at Ronald Cooper's car after an accident.

Baseball Boston Red Sox -- Placed IF Scott Fletcher on the 15-day disabled list. Recalled 3B Luis Ortiz from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Cleveland Indians -- Optioned P Brian Barnes to Triple-A Charlotte. Recalled P Bill Wertz from Charlotte.

Los Angeles Dodgers -- Activated P Todd Worrell from the 15-day DL. Optioned P Omar Daal to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Milwaukee Brewers -- Activated IF-OF B. J. Surhoff from the 15-day DL. Optioned C Mike Matheny to Triple-A New Orleans.

Minnesota Twins -- Placed P Scott Erickson on the 15-day DL, retroactive to May 15, with a strained muscle in his side.

Montreal Expos -- Signed P Troy Mattes.

Pittsburgh Pirates -- Activated P Mark Dewey from the 15-day DL.

St. Louis Cardinals -- Activated P Rick Sutcliffe from the 15-day DL. Placed P Rheal Cormier on the 15-day DL, retroactive to May 21.

Basketball Minnesota Timberwolves -- Announced that they have sold the team to New Orleans based Top Rank Inc.

College Colgate -- Named Ronald Rohn women's assistant basketball coach.

Fairleigh Dickinson -- Named Sandy Gordon women's assistant basketball coach.

Football Las Vegas Posse (CFL) -- Waived QB Jeff Loots, WR Clifford Reed and RB Bobby Joe Edmunds. Announced the retirement of LB Scott Ross and OL Brad Leggett.

Shreveport Pirates (CFL) -- Announced that WR Mark Duper will not report for the beginning of training camp May 27 and will remain out of camp pending his June 9 arraignment in Florida on drug charges.
