May 24, 1994

A Finksburg man has been freed on bond after being arrested in connection with an incident at a Gamber bar over the weekend.

Frederick W. Unkart, 64, of the 2500 block of Baltimore Blvd., was arrested about 12:20 a.m. Sunday and charged with two counts of assault and one count each of reckless endangerment, having a loaded weapon in a moving vehicle and driving while intoxicated. He was released on $10,000 bond Sunday, a detention center spokesman said.

In charging documents, state police said that a man in Clarence & Ann's Bar in the 3600 block of Sykesville Road apparently attempted to strike a 34-year-old woman. Others in the bar told him to stop.

As he left the establishment, he reportedly said, "I'll be back to see her." He went to his pickup truck on the parking lot and got a rifle.

As the man re-entered the bar with the weapon, the woman and several other customers ran to the kitchen. Police said he pointed the rifle at a customer, who dropped to the floor.

Officers said the man left the bar and was seen driving slowly along Route 91.

He was stopped on Route 140, and police reported finding a loaded rifle behind the seat of his truck. They said the man failed several field sobriety tests and a breath test at the Westminster barracks.
