Mount Hebron beats City

Jenny Joyce pitched a no-hitter as fourth-seeded Mount Hebron completed a surprising week to capture the state 3A East regional softball title yesterday, defeating second-seed and host City, 7-0, in the final.

Joyce struck out 12 batters and walked one.

The Vikings gave Joyce all the support that she would need in the top of first, scoring three runs on four hits off of City starter Maren Sautter.

Baseball

* Elkton 5, Overlea 2: Ricky Brockell hit a three-run home run and pitched 6 2/3 innings, leading third-seed Elkton past top-seeded Overlea, in the state 2A North region championship game.

Brockell struck out five and walked two before leaving in the seventh after giving up a two-run home run to Craig Schoeflin.
