A 20-year-old Glen Burnie man was charged with second-degree rape after a 14-year-old girl told officers that he sexually assaulted her Saturday night, county police said.

The girl told police she had been alone with the man in his apartment about 11 p.m. when he called her into the bedroom.

He then held the girl down and assaulted her, police said.

The assault was interrupted by a knock at the door. Police could not say how or when the girl managed to get out of the apartment, but said some unidentified friends urged her to go to the hospital and report the attack.

One of the friends took the girl to North Arundel Hospital, where she was treated and gave a statement to police.

Shane Michael McGregor, who lives in the 7800 block of Americana Circle, was picked up later and charged after he was interviewed by detectives from the sexual assault unit, police said.
