May 16, 1994

Two 14-year-old boys were flown by helicopter to a Baltimore burn center Saturday after the gunpowder they were playing with blew up and burned their faces and hands.

The names of the youths were not released.

Authorities said charges could be filed, depending on the outcome of an investigation by the state fire marshal's office.

One youth was in stable condition at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, while the other was still being closely monitored, a hospital spokeswoman said Saturday.

The explosion occurred about 2:40 a.m. in a field in Gamber, said Al Ward, deputy state fire marshal.
