The 13-14 Harford Sox put in a strong performance yesterday with a split in a Metro League doubleheader against Putty Hill at C. Milton Wright High School.

In the first game, Danny Green went the distance on the mound while going 2-for-4 at the plate in a 11-5 victory.

Adam Rafalski was 3-for-4 with five RBIs to lead the Sox, and teammate Brad Glascock almost hit for the cycle with a 3-for-4 performance (single, double, triple). Eric Shank was 2-for-4 with one RBI.

In the second game, Putty Hill sent two strong pitchers to the mound and held off the Sox to take home a 9-5 victory.

In Metro action Tuesday night, the Harford Sox relied on strong relief pitching from Chad Blevins to defeat the AYRA Reds, 8-6.

Eric Shank was perfect at the plate, going 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Brad Glascock was 1-for-4 with one RBI, and teammates Rick Black and Jeff Greggs each had a hit and one RBI.

Other key players for the Sox include Paul Isbell, Matt Blethin, Chris Reynolds, Joey Criss, and Josh Mawhinney.

Gymnastics

Ron Weber, Brian Cubbage, Jon Wainwright, Kevin Joyce and Kevin Jans of the Harford Gymnastics boys team recently competed in the Junior Olympic Regional Championships in Allentown, Pa.

Competing in the three-day event were the top-scoring gymnasts from Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York.

Weber, Maryland still rings champion and age 12-13 Class III competitor, placed sixth on still rings with 8.15. He earned 12th place in the all-around with 46.75.

Maryland all-around champion Cubbage, a Class IV age 10-11 gymnast, placed sixth on pommel horse with 9.1 and sixth on still rings with 8.8. He set a personal best and club record for Class IV with a score of 51.45 to place eighth all-around.

Wainright, Class V age 10-11, and Jans, Class VI age 7-9, were first-time regional competitors. Jans took silver on floor exercise with 9.85, second on parallel bars with 9.65, and ninth on pommel horse with 9.75. Jans achieved a personal best and Class VI club record when he finished the all-around with 57.1 and a fourth-place finish.
