Twins update Twins statistics

Minnesota has regrouped from a terrible start to climb back into contention in the mediocre AL Central. Although they remain in last place, the Twins (15-19) have won 11 of their past 17 games to pull to within four games of division-leading Chicago. And the Twins have done it with awful pitching. The staff ERA is an AL-worst 6.90, while the league is hitting a robust .332 against it. Among the starters, Scott Erickson and Carlos Pulido are the only ones who have surrendered fewer than six earned runs per nine innings. The offense has been a much more pleasant story. The Twins are averaging a healthy 5.3 runs per game and have been led once again by OF Kirby Puckett (.331, 35 RBIs), who has hit safely in 29 of 33 games and is hitting .377 with runners in scoring position. OF Shane Mack (.419) has hit safely in all eight games since returning from the disabled list with a sore shoulder. OF Alex Cole (.319) recently had a 14-game hitting streak. 2B Chuck Knoblauch (.286) has hits in 12 of his past 15 games and has yet to commit an error. Kent Hrbek, who has 34 home runs and 102 RBIs (both highs among active players) against the Orioles, is on the disabled list. Home field hasn't been an advantage for the Twins, who have five wins in 14 home games.
