Looking Down at the Eclipse

Filtering through the leaves

of an elm,

the phenomenon transferred

countless reflected images

of a diminishing solar disk

that spilled over the sidewalks,

creating infinite patterns

of mirrored light and darkness

so strikingly original

that you could not stop

looking down at the eclipse.
