County police arrested a Columbia woman and a Brooklyn Park woman early Friday on assault charges after a fight in the parking lot of A. L. Gators in the 8500 block of Fort Smallwood Road.

Tammy Lynn Shugrue, 24, of the 4400 block of Rolling Meadow Road in Columbia and Tammy Marie Mullins, 24, of the 200 block of Orchard Ave. were charged with battery, assault and disorderly conduct after the 2 a.m. incident.

Police said an officer on the scene saw the women screaming at each other, punching, kicking, shoving and wrestling. The fight continued even as the officer tried to separate the women, police said. Meanwhile, a crowd watched from across the street.

Police said Ms. Shugrue was the aggressor and that she admitted to drinking 20 beers.

Both women were taken to the Eastern District station and had to be restrained. They also continued to scream at each other while they were in custody, police said.
