Adults, teens arrested on drug charges

May 09, 1994

Anne Arundel County police arrested three adults and two juveniles Thursday and said they seized $500 worth of crack cocaine after searching two West County hotel rooms and a car.

Charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine are Derrick A. Harris, 20, of the 3400 block of Fort Meade Road; Gary R. Blake Jr., 23, of the 8800 block of Chestnut Ave. in Bowie; and Eric D. Strickland, 19, of the 1600 block of Disney Road in Severn, police said.

Both juveniles are 17. One is charged with possession of cocaine and the other with possession of marijuana and cocaine, police said.

Police said they obtained a search warrant Wednesday for two rooms at the motel, which they would not name, after receiving reports of drug dealing in the rooms.

When a surveillance team saw two men leave the motel shortly after 11 a.m. and get into a 1993 Pontiac Grand Am, Western District police officers and detectives stopped the car, officials said. They said $300 worth of crack cocaine, $50 worth of marijuana and $900 in cash were confiscated.

Seven additional people left the motel rooms about 12:15 p.m., police said. Officers said they searched the seven and both rooms and found $200 worth of crack cocaine and $277.

Four of the suspects were released, but Mr. Blake and the two juveniles were held and charged, police said. Police also impounded the Grand Am.
