Boston Red Sox -- Placed P Frank Viola on the 60-day DL. Purchased the contract of SS Carlos Rodriguez from Triple-A Pawtucket. Moved C Scott Hatteberg from Double-A New Britain to Pawtucket.

Chicago White Sox -- Claimed OF Bob Zupcic off waivers from the Boston Red Sox and assigned him to Triple-A Nashville.

Cincinnati Reds -- Optioned P Kevin Jarvis to Triple-A Indianapolis. Recalled P Jerry Spradlin from Indianapolis.

Florida Marlins -- Announced C Benito Santiago will not appeal his four-game suspension and will begin serving the penalty immediately. Purchased the contract of C Charles Johnson from Double-A Portland. Optioned P Mark Gardner to Triple-A Edmonton.

Los Angeles Dodgers -- Placed P Todd Worrell on the 15-day DL. Purchased the contract of P Al Osuna from Triple-A Albuquerque. Designated the contract of P Nelson Castro for assignment.

St. Louis Cardinals -- Activated C Tom Pagnozzi and OF Mark Whiten from the 15-day DL. Optioned C Erik Pappas and OF John Mabry to Triple-A Louisville.

Frederick Community College -- Signed women's basketball players Nicole Mamula (Laurel); Jackie Beach (Linganore); Brittany Liebegott (Walkersville); Ashanta Sellers (Largo); Jampsea Campbell (Friendly) and Angie Simpson (Brunswick).

American Hockey League -- Approved the sale of the Hamilton Canucks to the Syracuse Hockey Ownership Team and the Springfield Indians to New England Hockey Team Limited. Approved an application from Pro Friends Hockey Inc. to operate a team in the Springfield Civic Center for the 1994-95 season.

Hartford Whalers -- Reached a one-year affiliate agreement with Springfield of the AHL.
