Man, 22, arrested in beating of woman

County police arrested a Brooklyn Park man Sunday, accusing him of beating his girlfriend in the parking lot of a High's store in the 700 block of Church St., then scuffling with officers called to the scene.

The incident occurred shortly before 9:30 p.m., when police were called to the store parking lot where a man reportedly was beating a woman. Police found a woman and two men arguing, and an officer told the men to move away from the woman so he could conduct an interview.

As the officer was conducting the interview, one man began to quickly walk toward the woman. He ignored the officer's order to stop, and the officer stepped between the man and woman, police said.

When the officer tried to hold the man back, the man yelled, "No one touches me!" and grabbed the officer as if to pull him out of the way, police said. The man was then handcuffed by the two officers and taken into custody.

The woman told police that the man had hit her several times when they were at home and had slapped her several times in the face after following her to the store, police said.

Anthony Lee Cypher, 22, of the 5500 block of Patrick Henry Drive was charged with two counts of battery for allegedly assaulting Candy Holland, 30, who lives at the same address, police said. He also was charged with hindering and resisting arrest after he allegedly grabbed an officer, police said.
