Multiple sclerosis group to discuss Clinton health plan

The Bowie/Crofton Multiple Sclerosis Support Group will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Adult Day Care Center of Bowie, 3112 Belair Drive. A speaker from the White House staff will discuss the Clinton health plan. The group meets the first Thursday of each month.

St. Stephen's Church, 1110 St. Stephens Church Road, will hold its annual spring dinner from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday. The menu will include baked ham, turkey salad, potatoes, string beans, corn pudding, a cranberry mold, rolls, peach shortcake with whipped cream and beverages.

Tickets are $9 for adults and $4 for children ages 5-11. Carry-out dinners will be available. The church also will have a baked goods and plant sale.

Crofton's annual Armed Forces Day parade will start at 10 a.m. May 14, in front of Crofton Woods Elementary School on Urby Drive. Area bands, members of the Crofton Teen Club and the Crofton Baseball and Softball programs will be among those on the line of march to Crofton Elementary School on Duke of Kent Drive.

The Crofton Teen Club will hold a dance from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. May 20 at the Arundel Fire Hall. Tickets are $3 a person and include pizza and soda. The dance includes a lip-sync contest with a $50 first prize. The second place winner gets $30, and third prize is $20.

Lip-sync groups should have no more than five members and should bring their own music.

The teen club's next meeting will be held at 8 p.m. tomorrow at Crofton Town Hall. A speaker from Sarah's House, a homeless shelter at Fort Meade, will explain how Crofton teens can help.

The teen club also has planned a whitewater rafting trip for June 29 on the New River in Fayetteville, W. Va. The bus will depart Crofton Elementary School at 6 a.m. June 29 and return about 1 a.m. June 30. The price is $70 per person and includes bus transportation and a five-hour raft trip.

Rafters must be at least 12 years old. Seating is limited.

The Crofton Athletic Council is looking for umpires for its intramural baseball program and a director for its annual baseball tournament.

Umpires must be at least age 13. For information or to volunteer as an umpire, call 261-0045.

The first walk-in registration for the Crofton Athletic Council fall sports programs will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Crofton Elementary School on Duke of Kent Drive.

The registration fee for soccer is $30. It is $50 for football. In addition, parents must have paid the annual membership fee of $40.

The CAC also will accept registrations for the soccer camp it helps sponsor each summer.

The camp is open to boys and girls ages 5 through 15. The fee is $80 per camper and includes a camp T-shirt and a soccer ball. Families with more than one camper may deduct $5 for each additional registration. A team rate of $75 per camper is available for teams of 10 or more.

The camp will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. July 18 through July 22 at the multipurpose field in Crofton Park. Registration forms also will be available at the Crofton Library or Play it Again Sports in Crofton or call Dave Haller at 261-0196.
