25 Years Ago (Week of April 20-26, 1969):

* A man pleading guilty to robbery in Howard County Circuit Court asked Judge James Macgill that he be sentenced immediately to the Maryland Penitentiary rather than be returned to the "filthy and nasty" Howard County Jail to await sentencing. The man had already spent 26 days in the jail while awaiting trial.

50 Years Ago (Week of April 23-29, 1944):

* Reopening services were held at the Linden Church in Dayton, following renovation of the church building.

* The West Friendship Homemakers Club met at the home of Mrs. James Moxley. Mrs. Moxley, who was Red Cross chairwoman, reported that three skirts and one sweater and been completed for the war relief effort in the past month. In addition, the club presented a $5 donation for the Red Cross.
