BALTIMORE — Man fatally shot in car stopped at traffic light

BALTIMORE -- A man was shot to death yesterday afternoon while sitting in a car stopped at a traffic light on the city's Eastside by a gunman who fired at least 13 shots at his car, police said.

Police did not know the name or age of the middle-aged victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

They said he was driving a black Mazda RX-7 north in the 1300 block of North Gay Street, and stopped at East Preston Street about 3:30 p.m. when someone fired at him.

Man dies after falling 20 feet onto street


BALTIMORE -- A 24-year-old man died yesterday after he fell 20 feet off a wall onto Eastern Avenue, on the edge of Highlandtown, city police said.

Silver Romero of the 300 block of Newkirk St. was pronounced dead at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center at 6:23 p.m., about 40 minutes after the accident, police said.

Police said Mr. Romero was walking home with two friends after they shared three pitchers of beer at a nearby bar. They walked up a path to the top of a railroad bridge over Eastern Avenue east of Lehigh Street.

The man was pulling himself up onto a ledge near the tracks

when he fell backward and hit his head on the sidewalk 20 feet below, police said.
